Lathe Turning
Lathe Turning is a common manufacturing practice that involves cutting away material from a rotating piece. Lathe turning is a great way to make round geometries without the need for expensive tooling or dies. Raw metal material usually in a preformed hex or bar shape is placed into a ‘chuck’ that holds the piece and then spun on the lathe at a fast pace. This allows a machine operator to move a variety of cutting tools into the piece to cut away material until the desired, and perfectly symmetrical, shape is formed.
